Decisions Around Surgical Facial Procedures

If you are considering facial plastic surgery to achieve a youthful appearance, you will need to decide whether you want to pursue a surgical or non-surgical solution. Surgical and non-surgical procedures are not interchangeable — for example, you will never get the same results as a facelift with non-surgical options. However, depending on your needs and expectations, you can have satisfying results either way.

Which type of procedure should I choose?

Choosing between surgical and non-surgical facial procedures depends on your needs and expectations. If you need permanent results, you will want to consider surgery. Surgical options can be as dramatic or as subtle as you desire. If you want a temporary solution for moderate aging, you may be happy with injectables, fillers and laser treatments. A combination of these will result in an especially noticeable solution. You can always use fillers while you continue to age, and then seek a more permanent option when you’re ready.

Deciding between surgical and non-surgical facialBelow are some common surgical procedures:

  • Facelifts: Restore youthful features by tightening and removing extra skin. Various facelifts include full facelifts, mini facelifts and cheek and neck lifts.

  • Blepharoplasty: Eyelid surgery to remove excess skin and/or fat from the eyelids to achieve a more youthful appearance. Upper-eyelid blepharoplasty removes excess eyelid skin, but not brow heaviness. Lower-eyelid blepharoplasty targets puffiness (bags) below eyes and wrinkles.

  • Brow lift: Forehead lift to smooth horizontal forehead wrinkles, vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows and crow’s feet wrinkles on the outsides of the eyes. A brow lift resolves brow heaviness and makes the eyes look bigger.

How can I prevent surgery entirely?

Take care of your skin! Educate yourself on skincare. That could help you avoid facial surgery entirely. Always use sunscreen on your face when outside, and remember, it’s possible to damage your skin even on cloudy days. Try a series of Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments to erase skin discolorations, such as sunspots and age spots. Moisturize regularly and use a good eye cream, especially if you are in a dry climate like we are in Colorado.

Remember to consult your dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon for recommended skin care treatments
