While leafing through magazines, looking at pictures of attractive women in a variety of advertisements, it’s hard not to notice one common feature.
All of these women have full lips. Full, luscious lips have long been a definition of beauty. Some are lucky enough to be born with full lips.
Others are not as lucky. No matter where we start out, as we age our lips start to lose volume, get thinner, and take on an older appearance.
We see two groups of people who want lip augmentation. First are younger women who have naturally thin lips. Often lips with more fullness
will add balance and harmony to the overall appearance of their face. Second are women who have lost lip volume as they have aged and want to regain a
more youthful appearance to their lips.
There are a variety of ways to add volume to the lips. The easiest options are the temporary ones. There are a variety of fillers that very quickly and
naturally add volume to the lips. The fillers are injected in the office using a topical or local anesthetic. As much or as little of the filler can be
used in order to get the size, shape, and dimension that the patient desires. These fillers will last from six months to a year. There are also more permanent
solutions, often using your own tissue that will add youthful fullness for many years. These permanent solutions are done in a quick office procedure. A small
amount of postoperative swelling generally resolves in several days.
